How-to guide on using Modeler for Payer Contract Negotiations

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Modeler is a tool that allows you to compare current and proposed changes to your fee schedules. It can compare differences by procedure group and procedure code. This can help you negotiate better rates and understand what a new fee schedule means for you.

What You Need First:

First, you will need to head over to your account settings

Then, check to make sure you have a charge master uploaded.

Next, make sure you have a utilization report uploaded.

How to use:

To Create a Scenario

Click the purple “Create Scenario” button.

Name the new scenario, and then pick the schedule you want everything to be compared to.

Then choose which scenario to build your first draft.

Clone allows you to start with an exact copy of the fee schedule you first selected.

Build enables you to create a fee schedule by adding rules and carve-outs.

Select allows you to compare with any previously built fee schedule.

Upload allows you to import an excel or CSV fee schedule that you have.

Next, name your new draft.

Features:

Impact by Procedure

This will show how many rates increased, decreased, were added, or were removed with the new fee schedule.

Impact

You can look at the impact, either positive or negative, by procedure code or procedure group. The new fee schedule will show green bars above the line when there is a positive impact. At the same time, the negative impact will show red bars below the line.

Hover Over

By hovering over the rate in the impact graph, you can see the current price and the volume of the procedure in your practice. You can also see the new draft rates and the projected impact.

Sort by

You can change the sorting options to better compare the differences between the two fee schedules.

New Draft

You can create multiple drafts of different fee schedules to compare. Click the drop-down next to Draft to rotate between the different drafts.

Show Rules

You can click Show Rules to open up the fee schedule builder. Here you can look at what rules were built out and manually change them. You can also add and delete carve-outs. The fee schedule builder works the same as the fee schedule section.

Options

  • By clicking the three dots in the right corner, you can access the options Rename, Export, Implement, Duplicate, and Delete.

  • Rename allows you to change the name of the new draft you built.

  • Export allows you to make a CSV of the information shown in Modeler. Make sure to click Rates instead of Rules to get a full fee schedule.

  • Implement allows you to make the draft of the new official fee schedule in your Rivet account.

  • Duplicate allows you to duplicate the draft to make allow for more changes to be made while keeping the original.

  • Delete allows you to delete the draft you have made.
