Automating Denials Assignments in Rivet

Learn to leverage automation assignment rules to streamline workflows.

Updated over a week ago

In this article you will learn how to use basic and advanced assignment rules in Rivet to automate your denials assignments and streamline your workflow. Automating denial assignments in Rivet can save time and increase productivity. Basic and advanced assignment rules provide flexibility in assigning denials based on a variety of criteria.

1. Basic Assignment Rules

Basic assignments are useful for situations where denials are assigned out based on a single criterion, while advanced assignments allow for more complex rules to be applied.

  • Rivet will automatically assign every denial in your account to the first admin user created for the account. This is so that no denial goes unassigned. You can always change your default user by clicking into the Edit assignments modal and changing the user name associated with your Remaining denials.

  • You can choose which statuses you would like any assignment changes to apply to. In the case of a personnel change, you might want your new team member to take over all assignments - even the ones that have been closed out. In other cases, you may want your new assignee just taking over newly detected denials.

2. Creating Basic assignments (single criterion)

To set up basic assignments, navigate to the Assignments tab in Denials Settings, choose assignment criteria, and build rules.

1. From your Denials Settings page, click on the Assignments tab.

2. Click Edit assignments.

3. Choose your assignment criteria from the Assign by dropdown.

4. Build your assignment rules.

5. Rules will update in all statuses.

6. Select Apply assignment Rules

3. Advanced Assignment Rules

Advanced assignments are more complex and can be created using the Create Rule button. Advanced rules are applied before basic assignments. If a denial matches multiple rules, the rule closer to the top of the list will be used.

1. From your Denials Settings page, click on the Assignments tab.

2. Click Create rule.

3. Build your Advanced Assignment rules. Selecting All from the dropdown will make it so that every rule you write out will have to be met for the assignment to apply. Selecting “Any” from the dropdown will make it so that each rule could apply independently of each other.

4. Rules will update in all statuses.

5. Select Apply assignment Rules

5. After your rules are written and you are back at the Denial Setting>Assignment tab, Select the 3 lines to move the rule to the appropriate hierarchy by clicking and dragging the rule.
